Bass Rock

A familiar landmark in the firth of forth, Bass rock is renowned for its excellent Pollock and cod fishing.

Charter boat trips are available all round the East Lothian coast line with the most popular being North Berwick.
Ive only fished these grounds twice before myself landing a variety of fish from Mackerel, Ling, Cod, Pollok and Cole fish.

Apart from the fishing here the wildlife is fantastic with the largest breeding population of Gannets in the UK.

Torness Power Station

As to my last post I'm sticking to bass fishing.

In the winter months its a sure fire way to still enjoy a bit of rod bending action without having to pay over priced trout fisheries.
Toreness power station just south of Dunbar has some of the best bass fishing in the south of Scotland.
Ive fished here around 8 or 9 times now always successfully landing myself a nice bag of bass.
Best methods are bait-ragworm, shimmer eels or spinning.

Torness power station
Best place to fish is at the outflow of the power station where the water is 10 degrees warmer attracting the bass into the shore line.

Sea fishing Cockenzie Power Station

Sea Fishing East Lothian
I thought id add a local place for fishing Makerel, Mullet and Bass. Cockenzie has good Makerel fishing all year round and Mullet are never too far away.
The Makerel seem to hold a line against the back wall of the power station which is easy fished from the sea defence wall.
The mullet are to be found just as you get to the power station outflow where their normally crashing around the shallow waters near the shore line eating the sea fly larvae.

Bass can also be found in the outflow later on in the season when the power station fires up and starts pumping out warm water which attracts the bass close in.

River Thurso

October samlon on the river Thusro.
I caught the fish in dusk on a size 10 cascade with an intermediate line. the Salmon took about 30 mins to land due to high waters and and high banks at the river side.

the Salmon weighed 14lb 6oz a nice end to the season.

Sea Fishing in Portmahomack

Another outing from earlier this year was up in portmahomack 50 minutes north east of inverness.
cold and windy day but over 100 fish caught in the space of 3 hours. Most fish were caught on a mixture of colored feathers or just plain white cod feathers. Had a few fish on muppets but the feathers took the main share.
